The intake for the B.Ed Degree
Programme shall be as fixed by the SRC-NCTE,Bangalore, from time to time.
At present the intake is 500.

Eligibility
for Applying
Those who meet
all the criteria mentioned hereunder are eligible to apply for B.Ed
Degree Programme.
B.A/B.Sc or M.A/M.Sc Degree holders of any recognised University or
Deemed University.
Working as full time teacher at any level in a recognised educational
institution at the time of applying for the Programme. (Honorary/Part-time
teachers are not eligible). Service Certificate(s) must be enclosed
along with the Application Form. Late submission of such Service
Certificates(s) wil not be entertained. Applications without Service
Certificates will be rejected.
Provided, he/she has completed two years of
service, as on 30th June 2008, provided he/she continues to work in a
recognised Institution at any level (like Primary School, High School,
etc.,) even at the time of admission if selected. He/She must produce a
Service Certificate to that effect from the Head of the Institution where
he/she is working.
Applications
which do not satisfy the above eligibility criteria and which do not have
valid service certificate will be rejected. Admission Tickets of
Entrance Test will be sent to the candidates of valid and accepted
applications well in advance. Where as the University will take
sufficient care to send Admission Tickets to eligible candidates, there
may be instances where delivery of admission ticket is not done due to
reason beyond the control of University. Applicants who do not receive
Admission Tickets well in time are requested to contact The Chairperson,
Department of Education, KSOU, Mysore- 570 006 in person and take
duplicate copy of Admission Ticket or know reasons as to why it has not
been sent.
No candidate
will be allowed to appear for the Entrance Test unless he/she posseses
valid admission ticket. In case any such candidate appears for the test,
the Test Paper will not be valued.
The Decision
of the competent Authority for Selection is Final.
All residual
matters will be decided by the Vice-Chancellor

Duration of The Programme
The duration of the B.Ed Degree
Programme is two years. Every candidate has to attend three Contact
Programmes compulsorily within two years of admission. Only then the
candidate becomes eligible to appear for practical and theory
examinations. Those who have not completed the theory examinations within
the stipulated time have to complete the same within four years of
admission.

Medium
of Instruction
The B.Ed Degree
Programme is offered by the University through the medium of both Kannada
and English. Candidates will have to give their option for the medium of
Instruction. Similarly, students can submit assignments and attempt the
term-end examination in the medium of their choice. Audio-Video
Programmes, Contact Programmes and Practice Teaching will be provided
through the medium they prefer as far as possible.

Selection Criteria
A. Selection will be done
adhering to the seat matrix for reservation on the basis of total marks
obtained in the ‘Entrance Test‘ conducted by the Karnataka State Open
University.
B. Entrance Test pattern
1. There shall be ‘4’ papers of 50
marks each.
2. Each paper shall be of ‘1’ hour
duration and will have 50 multiple choice questions (50 items) carrying
‘1’ mark each.
3. Of the ‘4’ papers, ‘2’ shall be
related to testing the content competency of the candidates in
chosen school subjects, ‘1’ shall be related to testing the language
skills of the candidate (English or Kannada) and ‘1’ shall be related to
testing Reasoning Ability (25 items) and Teaching Aptitude
(25 items).
4. A candidate has to choose any ‘2’
school subjects for content competency papers depending upon the subjects
studied by the candidate at the Degree level. You should not
select two languages for methodology of teaching.(See box given
below)

Selection
Procedure
·
All the applications registered will be scrutinized and incomplete
applications will be rejected. Applications
without proof of meeting the eligibility criteria will be rejected.
Applications without documents to support claims for reservation will be
treated as General Merit.
·
Admission Tickets for appearing for Entrance Test will be issued/sent to
candidates who have submitted valid applications and which are found
eligible.
· A general merit
list based on the total marks obtained by the candidates in the B.Ed
Entrance Test will be prepared, without any consideration of the level
of Institution the candidate is working. However the rules of the
reservation for SC/ST Cat-I, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B Physically Challenged,
Defence Personnel and Non-Karnataka Group will be continued as usual.
· Those who have
scored the same marks in the entrance test will be placed in the merit
list according to their date of birth.
·
Seats will be alloted to Arts and Science graduates
propotionately on the basis of number of applications received.
·
Merit means total marks scored in the entrance test only.
Selection
Committee prepares a list of candidates strictly on the basis of merit as
per stipulations mentioned in clauses on intake and reservation policy.
This list will be called the First Selection List. The decision of
the Selection Committee is final. Candidates in the First Selection
List will be called for Pre-admission Counselling and Induction Programme
to be organised at Karnataka State Open University Campus at Mysore. All
selected candidates have to report themselves on the First day of
Pre-admission Counselling, failing which they forfeit their seats.

During Pre-admission Counselling
A. Original documents
will be verified. (Non-submission of required original documents for
verification will result in cancellation of seat).
B. Another Master Merit List of all the
selected candidates irrespective of level of institution where they are
working willl be prepared. Allotment of Study Centre will be done
strictly according to this Merit List and according to the rules of
reservation.
C. Candidates who accept the Study Centre
will be instructed to pay the prescribed fee immediately using the
challan provided. Those who fail to do so will forefeit their seats.
Keep the student copy with you. You require it for obtaining study
material and for future reference.
D. On production of Challan for having paid
the fee, the candidate will be considered to have been admitted and
a letter of confirmation (Letter of Offer) mentioning the name of the
Study Centre to which he/she is allotted will be given to the student.
(The candidate will forefeit the fee and the seat if he/she does not
report at the Study Centre on the stipulated date which will be informed
during Pre-admission Couselling).
E. Selection Committee will take steps to
fill-up the vacant seats if any by preparing subsequent ists strictly
according to merit.
F. Study Centre once allotted cannot be
changed in the middle of the Programme. However, mutual changes are
permitted on the production of written consent letters from both the
students before the commencement of First Contact Programme. Both the
students should present themselves at the Chairperson of the
Department of Education, KSOU, Mysore to effect the Change of Centre.

Instructional
System
The
methodology of instruction in this University is different
from that of the conventional universities.
The Open University System is more ‘ learner centred ’
and the student has to be an active participant in the
teaching-learning process. Most of the instruction is
imparted through distance mode rather than face-to-face
communication.
The
University follows the multi-channel approach for instruction. It
comprises a suitable mix of :
* Self-instructional Printed material
* Audio and video cassettes
* Audio-Video programmes transmitted
through Radio and Doordarshan
* Face–to–face Contact Programme at
Study Centers by Academic Counselors
* Assignments
* Practice Teaching through Internship
Printed materials are
the primary form of instructional materials. These are supplied to the
students in the form of several books or blocks. The Printed materials
prepared by the University are self instructional in nature.
In addition to the print material,
Audio and Video tapes are being prepared for each course.
The audio-video materials are supplementary to print material.
Hence, they are to be used as and when they are available and it will
help you to understand subject matter better. These materials will not
besupplied individually to students. It will be made available at the
Study Centers. Students can listen or watch these programmes during
Contact Programmes.
The Contact Programme
is compulsory and shall consists of THREE Intensive Contact
Programmes of a total of 12 weeks duration. There will not be any
provision for re-enrolment. These Programmes will be organized in the
manner given below :

A student
shall be required to put in a minimum attendance of 80% of the total
duration of the Contact Programme (12 Weeks).
No Re-enrollment :
Any Candidate who fails to attend
the First Contact Programme within THREE days from the date of
commencement of the Contact Programme shall forfeit his/her seat. There
is no provision for re-enrollment for the subsequent year. Fee remitted
by such candidates will not be refunded. They have to seek admission
afresh through CET in the subsequent year.
School based activities
shall have to be done in Secondary Schools selected by the Study Center
and under the supervision of the Study Center staff. During the school
based activities students shall be required to complete the Practice
Teaching and related assignments in each of the school subjects. Relevant
regulations governing the Practice Teaching will be detailed in the
Programme Guide. During the last contact programme students are required
to submit all the school-based assignments to the respective study
centers. The theory-based assignments are to be submitted to the study
centers before the commencement of the last Contact Programme and
necessary feed back may be obtained from the study center faculty.
Before the students attend the
Contact Programme they are advised to go through the study materials and
note down the important points to be discussed. Unless they have gone
through the print materials, there may not be much to discuss. Normally
these sessions will be held at the Study Centers during weekends as per
the schedule notified. The students may contact their study centers for
detailed schedules.
Assignments
are integral part of distance learning. The purpose of assignment is to
test the comprehension of the learning materials the students receive
from the University and also to help them comprehend better the courses
by providing feedback. The information given in the printed course
materials should be sufficient for answering the assignments. However,
students are advised to consult relevant reference materials for
completing their assignments.
Assignments constitute
continuous evaluation. The marks that the students get in their
assignments will be counted in their final result. For their own record,
they are advised to retain a copy of the assignment responses, which they
might submit to the study center co-ordinator. They are expected to
maintain an account of all these corrected assignments received by them
after evaluation. This will help them to represent their case to the
University in case they have any problem in this regard.
- Submission of assignment is
compulsory without which no student will be allowed to appear for the
term-end examination.
- If one appears in the term-end
examination, without submitting the assignments the result of the
term-end examination will be cancelled.
- All assignments should be submitted
at the Study Centers.
- The University has the right to
reject or accept the assignments received after the due date.
- Assignments once submitted will be
considered as final and the marks/grades given to the assignment will
be retained even if the student appears subsequently for the term-end
examination.

Scheme Of Examination
There will be
a term-end examination at the end of the Programme at the end of
Second year.
The Scheme of Distribution

Revaluation and Re-totaling
Revaluation and re-totalling are
allowed for B.Ed answer scripts. The candidates should apply to the
Registrar (Examination), Karnataka State Open University, Mysore within
the stipulated time.
Reappearance
A candidate declared to have failed
at B.Ed Degree examination in any paper/course is permitted to
re-appear for the failed paper/course.
The number of such chances will be
restricted to twice the duration of the Programme including the first
appearance. The syllabus and scheme of examination in force on the date
of such subsequent appearances are to be followed.
Examination Centres
The University will conduct B.Ed
Degree Examination at University notified examination centres. The
Examination will be held once in a year. The details of the schedule of
examinations and the Center of Examination will be intimated to the
students individually.
Other Information
1. To be eligible to appear at the
Term-end Examination in B.Ed. Programme, the students are required to
fulfill the following conditions.
* they should have paid the programme/tuition
fee due for the programme or year
* they should have opted and pursued the
prescribed programme
* they should have submited the
examination registration form in time
* they should have completed all the
required assignments and other practicals
* their registration for the programme
should be valid
2. Examination schedule indicating the
date and time of examination for B.Ed. Programme is sent to all Study
Centers in advance as well as to all students individually.
3. The last date for submission of
Examination Fee and Examination Form will be intimated by the Registrar
(Examination) to the candidates individually.
4. In case the students fail to receive
the intimation letter about the details of examination schedule 15 days
before the commencement of the examination, they should get in touch with
the study center/headquarters indicating their Roll No., Name, Address
and the programme.
5. The students shall appear for the
examination only at the examination center allocated to them and not at
any other center.
6. Examination Centre once opted shall
not be changed.
7. The examination result will be
compiled examination centre-wise and all the concerned Study
Centers/Examination Centers will get a copy of the result.
8. The University Examination for B.Ed
Degree Programme will be held once in a year.
9. Examination application forms will
be sent to the candidates individually along with Examination Time Table
and Challan.
10. Repeaters will have to obtain the
examination application form from the Registrar (Examination), KSOU,
Mysore.
11. The examination fee shall be paid
to examination fund a/c through bank challan only. Examination Fee
once paid will not be refunded or re-adjusted to the next examination
even if the candidate absents himself from the examination for which
he/she has paid the fee. Keep the student copy with you. You may
need it for further reference.
12. Students should obtain the
admission ticket for the examination from the Chief Superintendent of
the Examination Center during the two days before the commencement of
the examination. Admission ticket will not be sent by post to the
candidates.
13. Students can answer examination in
Kannada even if they have opted for English medium or vice-versa.
14. Candidates appearing for the
examination for the first time shall pay the prescribed
fee for all the courses irrespective of
the number of courses they wish to appear.
15. The University will dispatch the
Marks Cards to the address of the student.
16. Candidates who fail to complete the
minimum required number of course/s prescribed for the programme within
the alloted period cease to be on the rolls of the University for the
programme.

GENERAL INFORMATION
How To
Apply?
1. Use only the
application form of the current year. Application form issued in previous
years will not be considered.
2. Fill in the
application form legibly after reading the instructions printed in
the Prospectus. Incomplete Applications will be
rejected without any correspondence.
3. Candidates should
send only xerox copies of relevant documents except Service
Certificate along with the application form.
4. Fee should be paid only after
attending the Pre-admission Counselling.
5. The Application Form for Admission
should be submitted along with Entrance Test Admission Ticket duly
filled-in by the candidate.
6. The Application Form should be sent
to the under mentioned Address by Registered Post / Courier so as to
reach on or before the last date prescribed by super-scribing on the
cover as “Application for B.Ed Degree Programme”

7. Candidates
selected for B.Ed Degree Programme should pay the Tuition / Programme fee
in full only after the verification of relevant Original Marks Cards,
Date of Birth Certificate and other Documents together with duly
attested Xerox copies of all the Documents, when they attend the
Pre-admission Counselling and Induction Programme.
The programme/tuition fee shall be paid to General fund
a/c through bank challan only.
8. At the time of
admission to Second Year B.Ed Programme, after receiving the intimation
from the University, the programme/tuition fee and other fees shall be
paid to General fund a/c through bank challan and send one copy to the
Chairperson, Department of Education, KSOU, Mysore-06.
10. Money Orders,
Postal Orders, Cash or any other mode of payments will not be accepted.
The University will not be responsible for the loss incurred by the
candidate due to such payments.
11. Students are required to preserve
the student copy of the challan. The same will have to be produced at the
time of obtaining any document from the University.
12. Admission made to any programme is
provisional till the University approves it.
13. Students when visiting University
or the Study Centre or Examination Centre shall bring with them their
Identity Card to be shown on demand.
14. All legal disputes if any, shall come
under the Jurisdiction of Mysore city Courts only.
15. Once the instruction to pay the fees
is received by the students during the Pre-admission Counselling they
must pay the full fee on or before the last date fixed for the
admission. They will loose the opportunity for admission if they do not
pay the fee within the last date.

Rules of the University
Candidates admitted to a Degree Programme
in the University will not be permitted to study simultaneously any other
Programme leading to a degree in this or any other University. However, a
candidate can study a Diploma or a Certificate Programme along with a
Degree Programme.
1. If a Candidate gets admitted to more
than one degree Programme, the University shall cancel the admission to
one or both the Programmes.
2. A student who is found to have
concealed information about his/her age, qualification etc., or violated
any provisions, is liable to be removed from the rolls forthwith and will
be deprived of the benefits of attendance, examination results, awards
etc., in the Programme concerned, apart from appropriate disciplinary
action and imposition of penalties.
3. Candidates shall abide by the Rules
and Regulations in force and those to be issued by the University from
time to time.
4. All legal disputes will come
under the jurisdiction of Mysore city courts.
5. The offices of the University and
Library will remain closed on the Second Saturdays of every month, all
Sundays and General Holidays.
6. This Prospectus provides necessary
information required by a student. Hence students are advised to keep
the prospectus till completion of the Programme.
7. To obtain the Degree Certificate
after passing the examination, a student should directly apply to the
Registrar (Examination), Karnataka State Open University, Manasagangotri,
Mysore-6, in the prescribed application form. Other details may be
obtained from the University after the press notification about
convocation.
8. To obtain the Migration Certificate a
student should apply to the Registrar (Examination), KSOU,
Manasagangotri, Mysore- 570 006, in the prescribed form by paying the
prescribed fee.
9. Transfer Certificate will not be
issued to the student. It will be sent to the institution where the
student pursues his/her further studies. However, the students have to
obtain No Due Certificate from the University before applying for
Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate. It wil not be issued for
purposes other than further studies. To know the formalities for
obtaining T.C please contact the Deputy Registrar (Admissions) in person
or over phone (Ph.No. 2500981).
10. Provisional Pass Certificate will be
issued by the Registrar (Examination) on request and on payment of
prescribed fee, after the declaration of result by the University.
11. The University
will send study materials by Registered Post. All circulars,
letters, examination notifications
and such other correspondences will be sent by ordinary post only. The
candidate can also collect the above except study materials from the
nearest study centre or from head quarters.
