B.LI.Sc Degree Programme

 

Eligibility for Admission

            Candidates should possess a Bachelor degree (B.A, B.Com, B.B.M., B.Sc, B.Music, BFA, LLB)   in any discipline  of this University or any other recognised University.  Such candidates are eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Library and Information Science Programme.

Duration of the Programme

            Duration of the BLISc Programme is ‘One’ academic year from the year of Admission to the  Programme.

Medium of Instruction

            The medium of instruction followed is English and Kannada.

Instructional System

            The Instructional methodology used in this University is different from that in the conventional Universities.  The Open University system is more learner-oriented, and is geared to cater to the needs of motivated students assuming that the student is an active participant in the teaching-learning process. Instruction to student is imparted through various modes such as Print, Audio, Video and supported by face to face contact programme.

           The University follows multi-channel approach for instruction.  It comprises proportionate combination of:

           *       Printed Self-instructional Material - Audio and Video cassettes

           *       Audio-Video C.D and F.M Radio Channel

           *       Face to face Contact Programme by University Professors

Assignments

Submission of Assignments, which carries  20 Marks for each paper, is compulsory. Assignments should be submitted during the year of admission only. Assignment submitted in subsequent years will not be accepted.

Study Material

            University will supply guidelines for the students in  the pattern of Self Instructional  Material (SIM) in addition to face to face counselling. The guidelines will be in English and Kannada medium. Each course/paper is divided into to 6 Blocks. Further, Blocks are subdivided into 2 to 6 Units. The students will receive 35 Blocks in all for the entire programme. 

Personal Contact Programme (PCP)

            University conducts Personal Contact Programmes at various centres. Students should attend the PCP at the centre to which they are directed to attend. Students can have more information on PCP from the Chairman of the Library and Information Science Department of the University. During the personal contact programme Lectures will be delivered by the academicians of high repute working in various Universities and libraries. Participation in the Contact Programme is compulsory. Those who abstain for this programme will not be allowed to register for the final Examinations.

Continuous Evaluation

            Continuous evaluation is related to the assignments that each student has to submit before being declared eligible to appear for the term end examination. Each student has to complete and submit two assignments for each course. Assignments once submited and valued cannot be resubmitted for improvement. Students should maintain personal copies of the assignments with them.

Revaluation

Students are permitted to apply for Revaluation of answer scripts  of theory courses (Course  01-06) on the payment of prescribed fee to the University. There is no revaluation for course 7 and 8 (Practical components).

Re-Appearance

A candidate declared to have failed in the BLISc Examination is permitted to re-appear for any of the Courses / Papers, provided :

i)        The number of such chances is restricted to two including the first appearance to be  utilized within two Years from the year of admission.

ii)       Such chances will be given as per the syllabus and scheme of examination in force in the year of such subsequent appearance.

Improvement of Class

A candidate declared to have passed the BLISc examination is permitted to re-appear for the examination without rejecting the results so obtained for the purpose of improving the results and finally choose the marks/results to his / her advantage.

Provided that,

i)        The number of such chances for improvment shall be restricted to Two and  to be utilized within Two years from the  Accademic Year of admission.

ii)       The application for such appearance shall be made to the Registrar (Evaluation) atleast 60 days before the commencement of the Examination and obtain permission. The Examination Fee for such appearance should be paid only after the permission is accorded to the candidate.

Scheme of Evaluation

          There will be single valuation for all the Courses

Examinmation Centres

The University will conduct BLISc Examinations at places where more than 100 Students are appearing for Examination. The details of the Schedule of Examination and the Centres will be intimated to the students individually. Practical examinations are conducted at the KSOU Campus under the supervision and direction of the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science

Other Information

1)       To be eligible to appear at the term-end examination in any Programme, the students are required to fulfill the following conditions.

          *     they should have paid the Programme/ tuition fee for that year.

          *     they should have opted and pursued the prescribed Programme.

          *     they should have submit the examination form in time.

          *     their registration for the Programme should be valid.

2)       Examination schedule indicating the date and time of examination for each Programme is sent to all the Study Centres in advance as well as to all students in person and also put on the University website.

3)       In case student fails to receive the intimation letter about the details of examination schedule 15 days before the commencement of the examination, they should get in touch with Study Centers/Regional Centres/Headquarters indicating their Enrolment No., Name,  Address and Programme.

5)       The students will be entitled to appear for the examination at  the examination centre allocated to them and not at any other centre without specific  permission of the University.

6)       Centre once opted shall not be changed.

7)       The examination result will be compiled according to examination centrewise and all the concerned Study Centres/Regional Centres/Examination Centres will get a copy of  the result.

8)       Candidates who fail to complete the minimum required number of course/s prescribed for  the Programme within the allocated period of study shall cease to be on the rolls of the University for that Programme till they re-enroll themselves, if they wish to do so.

9)       The University Examinations for BLISc Programme will be held once a year in June.

10)     Examination application forms will be sent from KSOU along with other details.

11)     Repeaters will have to obtain the examination application form on request from the Registrar (Examination), by First week of March for June examination. If also can be downloaded from KSOU website.

12)     Examination fee once paid, will not be refunded or re-adjusted to the next examination even if the candidate abstains himself from the examination for which he / she has paid the fee.

13)     Students should obtain the admission ticket for the examination from the Chief Superintendent of the examination Centre. Admission ticket will not be sent by post.

14)     Marks Cards will be dispatched to the students by the University to the address of the student.

15)     English medium students can answer examination in Kannada also.

16)     Candidate appearing for examination for the first time shall pay the full-prescribed fee given below.

GENERAL INFORMATION 

How to Apply ?

     At the time of applying :

1.       Use only application form of the current year. Application form issued in the previous years will not be considered.

2.       Fill in the application form legibly after reading the prospectus. Indicate the Programme (BLISc) you wish to study in the space provided for the purpose. Under no circumstance your application will be transferred to another Programme for registration. Separate application is to be submitted for each Programme.

3.       Tuition/Programme fee, Registration fee, Eligibility fee, Penal fee (if any) should be Paid to General Fund  A/C through SBI / SBM Bank Challan provided by KSOU.  All fees must be remitted in one instalment only. Students should keep the student  copy of Challan  with her/his custody. Original Challan  should be sent along with the filled Admission Application Form.

4.       Candidates while submitting the application form shall follow the instructions given below:

          Candidates should send original marks cards of the qualifying examination and transfer certificate along with duly self attested two sets of photo copies.

5.       Candidates should send four copies of stamp size photographs (preferably color) of which one must be affixed to the application form. The other three copies must be sent in a separate cover. On the back of each of these photographs the candidate must mention  his / her name, class and serial number of the admission application form.

6.       Before you remit the prescribed fees please make sure that you fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission to the Programme applied for. Those who have failed in the qualifying examinations not eligible to apply. Applications by ineligible candidates will be rejected. The fee once remitted will not be refunded.

7.       Superscribe on the envelope about the Programme applied for. Candidates are advised not to submit the Application form to the Study Centres/ or at Regional Centres.

8.       After the University approves the admission, the original marks cards and Date of Birth Certificate will be returned.

9.       Admission made to any Programme is provisional till the University approves it.

10.     Once admission is approved by the University, After the despatch of study materials the Programme/Tution Fee will not be refunded under any circumstance.

AND FEE PAID Bank Challan, TO BE SHOWN ON DEMAND

Payment of Fees

1.       All payments made will be by SBM / SBI Bank Challan only.  Candidates from the states other than Karnataka and from places where SBI / SBM branches are not located can pay the fees through D.D. in favour of Finance Officer, payable at Mysore.

2.       The prescribed fees for the Programme should be paid on or before the last date fixed for submission of application.

3.       The application will be rejected if the payment of fee is not made on or before the last date fixed by the University. Under no circumstances, this date will be extended.

4.       Candidates should send Fee paid Challan or D.D. along with filled in application form.

5.       Money orders, IPO, or any other mode of payment will not be accepted. The University will not be responsible for the loss incurred due to such payments.

6.       Identity Card bearing Permanent Roll No. will be issued to every student after the admission is approved. This card must be renewed every year till the completion of the Programme. In all correspondence with the University the student shall quote his/her Roll No. and Programme.

7.       Programme / Tuition fee has to be paid by quoting the application number and the name of the candidate on the challan compulsorily.

8.       Applicants belonging to states other than Karnataka or who have passed qualifying examination from Universities outside Karnataka will have to pay an eligibility fee of Rs.1000/-

Rules of the University

1.       No Candidate admitted to a Degree Programme in the University shall be permitted to study simultaneously any other Programme leading to a degree in this or any other University. However, a candidate can study a Diploma or a Certificate Programme along with a Degree Programme.

2.       If a Candidate gets admitted to more than one degree Programme the University shall  cancel his/her admission to both the Programmes, which he/she had joined without giving prior notice.

3.       Any student who is found to have concealed information about his/her age, qualification etc., or violated any provisions, is liable to be removed from the rolls forthwith and will be deprived of the benefits of attendance, examination results, awards etc., in the Programme concerned, apart from appropriate disciplinary action and imposition of penalties.

4.       Candidates shall abide by the Rules and Regulations in force and those to be issued by the University from time to time.

5.       False declaration of age, qualification etc., by the candidate will disqualify his / her admission to University programme.

6.       All legal disputes  will come under the courts within the jurisdiction of Mysore city only.

7.       The offices of the University and Library will remain closed on the Second Saturdays of every month,   all Sundays and General Holidays.

8.       This Prospectus provides all necessary information you need as a student of the University. You are therefore advised to keep the prospectus till you complete your Programme. Avoid unnecessary correspondence about the details already available in the prospectus.

9.       To receive the Degree Certificate after passing the examination, a student should directly apply to the Registrar (Examination), Karnataka State Open University, Manasagangotri, Mysore-6, in the prescribed application form. Other details may be obtained from the University after the press notification about convocation.

10.     To obtain the Migration Certificate a student should apply to the Registrar (Examination), KSOU, Manasagangotri, Mysore-6, in the prescribed form by paying the prescribed fee.

11.     Transfer Certificate will not be issued to the student. It will be sent to the institution where the student pursues his/her further studies. However, the students have to obtain No Due Certificate from the University before applying for Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate.

12.     Provisional Pass Certificate will be issued by the Registrar (Examination) on request and on payment of prescribed fee, after the declaration of result by the University.

13.     If the original Identity Card is lost, duplicate card may be obtained from the office on payment of Rs.100/-.

14.     The University will send study materials by Registered Post. All circulars, letters, examination       notifications and such other correspondences will be sent by ordinary post only. The candidate can also collect the above circulars from the head quarters or can access from KSOU website.

15.     Study Material will be issued at the Headquarters at the time of spot admission.
